Driving In My Car: Finding the Car of Your Dreams

Look Out for the Following Things When Buying a Used Caravan

Nothing equals or even beats the services that a caravan can offer you when you want to go for a vacation. It provides the amenities of a home and ensures that you feel at home regardless of the destination that you choose for your holiday. Notably, caravans can be pricey and a bit expensive when you are looking to buy, and that is why purchasing a used one can be the wisest decision at times. In such a case, the following is a discussion of some important things you must look out for when buying a used caravan:

Does Everything Function and Live up to Standard?

For a caravan that has been under someone else's care, you cannot be sure about the level of care and maintenance that the previous owner has accorded that caravan. You should have a keen eye when you are inspecting the used caravan, especially when it comes to the basic utilities. Mechanical problems related to the suspension, chassis, and brakes are very common. Rust on a galvanised chassis is an indication that it hasn't been properly cared for and you must replace it.

Additionally, look out for squeaks from the suspension and a bumpy ride when you are testing the caravan to identify any problems with the suspension. Make sure that the doors, windows and locks installed on any of them work well or before you set out with your caravan.

What are additional checks you must carry out?

  1. Check for corrosion at the bottom of the caravan. The bottom is exposed to lots of moisture and corrosive elements but lacks the required level of exposure for frequent maintenance. Ordinarily, most people barely pay attention to this area.
  2. Look at the condition of the tyres. Is there any balding and other indications of tyre wear such as bulging?

Is the Caravan Watertight?

Leakages on the caravan are the last thing you want when you set out to your desired destination. They can make the whole trip uncomfortable and extend significant damage to the luggage you are towing in the caravan. Note that some of the leakages may not be easily detectable to the naked eye. Ideally, you should arm yourself with a damp detector or moisture meter, which is available in a majority of do-it-yourself stores around the world. They give you a general indication of leakage and damp problems and raise your credibility as a buyer who knows what they are looking for.
